The Brooklyn-native and long-time basketball player served in the Army during World War 2.

Possible John J. Curran Jr, born August 22, 1924 in NYC

or John Joseph Curran (b. 4/10/22) in Brooklyn. His enlistment record says Occupation : Actors and Actresses, which was sometimes what was listed for pro athletes

John Arthur Curran (1924-2021) from Brooklyn fits, but his obituary mentions nothing of basketball and was in Northern Virgnina during parts of Jack Curran's career
