Caruso went to St. Michael's in Union City before heading off to college. He played basketball for various pro outfits before entering the U.S Army during World War 2. After the war, he played some but went into coaching.
In 1950, Caruso was hired by Saint Peter's College to baseball and basketball, and after a year there left for Mount St. Mary's as a assistant football coach as well as basketball coach. He lead Mount St. Mary's to the Mason-Dixon league title, but was fired in April of 1951 following a "policy disagreement" when he scheduled an unauthorized game after the season. He would coach at the U.S. Maritime Acadmey until his death in 1965. I have yet to find the circumstances surround his early passing.
