From Elgin, Illinois, Graf was an All-American at Marquette. Played a couple seasons for Sheboygan. Paul Sokody, who wound up being Graf's brother-in-law, was his teammate at Elgin, Marquette and Sheboygan. A leg injury hampered his career, shortly after signing with Sheboygan. He was named head coach of Sheboygan in 1942, but was released in January by manager Carl Roth.
Graf was born to Erwin and Anna Graf. He was married to Barbara (1917-2002) and retired to Naples, Florida, as of 2000.
