Vander Meulen was a collegiate baseball and basketball star at Carroll
University. After playing professionally, he coached high school
basketball for 15 years. He wound up principal at LaFollette High School
in Madison, where the auditorium bears his name. His son, David
(1939- ), was a long-time basketball coach for Wisconsin-Whitewater,
winning two Division III titles.
