Preboske was born in Antigo, Wisconsin, to John and Angeline Preboske.
He went to Antigo High School ('32) and then to the University of
Wisconsin. In 1935, Preboske was declared ineligible to play college
basketball because he was alleged to have played professional baseball
under an assumed name the summer before. He went on to play professional
basketball while also teaching. He taught mathematics for 34 years at
Merrill High School, as well as coaching football and basketball.
Felix married Lorraine Drengler (1916-2016) in 1939 and they had one daughter and three sons.
