Born from Lloyd (1886-1963) and Edith Davis Downey (1884-1954), Glynn starred at Purdue before playing two year professionally and coaching high school. He served in the Navy during World War 2, and started working for the Indiana Insurance Company in 1950 where he eventually became senior vice-president. He died at home in 1976 at the age of 60.
He married Barbara Downey and had one son, James. Glynn's father Lloyd played minor league baseball.
