A baseball and basketball player, Borgmann was a long time pro basketball player and coach, following a journey that would lead him to be one of the first members of the Basketball Hall of Fame. He was a minor league baseball player for many years, and would go out to be a scout for various teams for 32 years.

He and his wife (Lillian? Connie) had one son.
