Born to Romanian immigrants Morris and Sophia (b. 1873) Askowitz, Sam played basketball at N orthern HS before playing pro and semi-pro basketball around Detroit for many years. When the Hed Aids joined the MBC, Askowitz went with but after being released early in the season, he went across the Detroit River to play with the Windsor entry in the league. From Hamtramck.

He married Lorietta Michalski in 1935

The trail runs cold on him after 1935.
