One of the earliest stars of the New York basketball world, Hirsch played for 11 years on various clubs around his hometown Rochester. He worked with the Jewish Youth Association until 1947 when he retired to run Camp Cherokee at Saranac Lake. After running the camp, which catered to youths, he returned JY, where he stayed until 1968 when he retired to North Miami Beach in Florida.

In the summer of 1971, Hirsch went to Ottawa to visit family, and while there, he suffered a fatal heart attack.

Manny married Henrietta Cook in 1933 and they had two daughters and a son.
