Born to Anthony and Mary Zeller in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Zeller attended St. George HS in Allentown, followed by Washington and Jefferson College. Afterwards, Zeller entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War 2. He returned to school, attending the University of Pittsburgh. He played basketball there for two years, enjoying his added eligibility due to his service during the war. He played a couple seasons professionally while going to med school. He served as the director of anesthesiology at Columbia Hospital in Oakland for 20 years and then chief anesthesiologist at Aliquippa Hospital for 17 year, retiring in 1989.


Dr. Zeller married Cleta Huneck and they had four daughters.

After playing with the Ironmen, Melvin went on to coach at St. Bonaventure, turning the college team into a nationally-ranked program. From there he went to Toledo, where he coached for 11 years.


Melvin died in 2004 after suffering from dementia for many years.

He married Mary Jean in 1950 and they had two sons.

He later coached and taught at Waynesburg College before moving into a career in sales.

He was married to Betsy Bryant and had three daughters.

Getchell signed with the NFL's Pittsburgh Eagles in 1946, but did not make the team. He played basketball that winter for the Ironmen, and in 1947 returned to the gridiron, playing 8 games for the Baltimore Colts.

In February of 1947, he was declared ineligible and removed from the Iowa squad. He signed with the Ironmen in the BAA a few days later and played the rest of the season with them.
In April of 1947, Jorgensen was critically injured in a car accident in Iowa, be recovered to play another seven season professionally. He was named as a plaintiff in a lawsuit for the accident, filed by the families of two passengers injured in the accident.

Jorgensen died of an aortic aneurysm in 1982.
His father, Charles, was a trainer for the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team. His brother Roger was his teammate with the Ironmen.

He worked for the family business, Etna Broom and Mop Manufacturing, with his brothers for many years before retiring in 1981. He was also a part-time scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He was married to Bertha and they had a son and a daughter. He later remarried to Jessie.

Born to Serbian immigrants, Petar "Press" Maravich played in the NBL and BAA, but is better known as a collegiate coach. While at LSU, he coached his son, Pete, who set the NCAA scoring record and is on  of the greatest basketball players the world has ever known,

Maravich spent World War 2 in the U.S.Navy.

Maravich was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1985. Although diagnosed early, Maravich attempted holistic methods of treatment which allowed the disease to progress. He died in 1987.

Played one year at Pitt before embarking on a professional and semi-professional basketball career. He was a B-24 pilot in Europe during World War 2.
Fabel died from lung cancer in Pittsburgh at 49 years of age.

Update 5/6/2016
His obituary in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says he was 49, not the 53 years of age he was previously listed at. This makes more sense when considering being 53 means he was a 23-year old sophomore in college. His old birthdate of September 4, 1913 is in doubt. Not to mention he graduated from East Pittsburgh in 1935, which would make him a 22-year old high school senior, with the 1913 birth date. His WW2 military compensation application gave us his birthdate and city of birth, filling in what was missing from his obituary.

Joseph A. Fabel, born in 1917 to Joseph and Helen Fabel and married Mary Jane McKee.

From Homestead, Pennsylvania, Miller played both football and basketball at Duquesne. After graduating, he became a teacher and coach at his alma mater, Homestead High School. In June of 1942, Miller was released from Homestead as the enrollment of the district dropped, so he enlisted in the service. He served in the US Navy during World War 2, before returning to the pro basketball court, all while continuing to be an educator. He moved to Wilkinsburg High School (PA) in 1953, and was eventually promoted to Athletic Director. He retired in 1975, and died following a stroke in 2001. He married schoolteacher Alice Bullion Miller in 1941 (1915-2006) and the couple had a son, Walter Miller Jr, and a daughter, Eileen Olar.
