Goldman had never played basketball prior to his junior year in high school, but he took to the game quickly. He would go on to star at CCNY before joining up with the SPHA's. He would play 9 seasons with them (as well as a couple other minor pro teams at the same time). He served in the navy during World War 2, and would later serve as the Athletic Commissioner for the NY Public School System until retiring in 1977.
He married Mae Berkowitz (1923-2006) and they had a son and two daughters.
