After playing basketball at baseball at La Salle, Adair was signed by the New York Giants baseball club in 1949 and pitched for their Trenton affiliate in Class B. After the 1949 season, he signed with the Philadelphia Warriors and was farmed out to the Hartford Hurricanes in the ABL. He was there about a month before being let go. In 1950, the Giants promoted him to the Sioux City team in the Western League where he would have a 14-8 record. He entered the Marines after the season and served at Parris Island during the Korean War. In 1952, he returned to baseball to give it a go, but never progressed higher than AA. He was let go in 1954. He would work at RCA for many years, and refereed high school basketball games in Philadelphia.
He married Betty Jane Smith and they had three sons and two daughters.
