Brofman attended Brooklyn JC amd transferred to LIU before joining the army to serve in World War 2. After the war, Brofman played with Cohoes in the New York League and was signed by the New York Knicks in the fall of 1949 but was released prior to the start of the basketball season. He signed with Hartford in the ABL. He was let go in December of that year to make room for Dutch Garfinkel and he return to Cohoes to play with the ABL's Marras in February of 1950, He coached one game, but when the team disintegrated, he played one game for the Scranton Miners.
