The Knicks had lost in the NBA finals the last two seasons, and this year were finally determined to win the title. After eking out the regular season divisional crown, they defeated Baltimore and Boston to advance to the NBA finals to face the Lakers yet again. The result was the same, as the Knicks lost the NBA finals for a third straight year. The Knicks were a well-balanced team, with seven players averaging over 10 points per game but no one with a PPG average higher than 14.0 (Carl Braun).
