The Celtics finished in third place in he Eastern Division, just a game and a half out of first. Facing Syracuse in the division semi-finals, the Celtics won both hard-fought game to advance to the Division Finals. They would split the first two games before dropping the last two (and therefore the Series) to the Knicks. Hall of Famers Ed Macauley, Bob Cousy and Bill Sharman lead the Celtics in scoring, with no other player averaging 10 points per game.
