Despite being highly recruited by colleges out of high school, Kaplan decided to go the professional route instead, playing for the Dux AAU club. This would turn into a very lengthy basketball career in the ABL.
For some reason, his name appears as "Chamberlain" in boxscore of a Kingston-Philly game printed in the Deceember 16, 1938 edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
