Not sure on his identity, but there were two John Kane's in the with ties to the NYC area in the 1940 census with a college educations:

However, if the Fordham thing is not true, there was a Johnny (or Jack) Kane at Erasmus who graduated HS in January of 38. Not sure the dates that Kane played for Jewels, but if after Jack's graduation, it could be him. He was serving at Great Lake in the Navy in December of 1942. All this leads me to believe that the Erasmus basketball star was John Joseph Kane, Jr, b. 3/21/1922 d 4/14/2003. But is that gentleman is pretty young to graduate and play for the Jewels, so still searching. Plus John J Kane is a little too slight to be a center. Lot of John Kanes in Brooklyn.
