Schwartz starred on the hardwood at LIU before going pro with the New York Jewels. He was hired at LIU to coach the JV basketball team, and later was named head coach and athletic director at the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. 1n 1943, he joined the U.S. Army and graduated from the OCS Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth. After the war, he went to Kansas State University to get his doctorate in veterinary medicine. He would settle near Wilmington, Delaware, and was a leader in animal welfare in the area. He died of cancer in 1990.
He married Patricia Young and they had a son and a daughter.
