Born in Indianapolis in 1914, Robert Louis Kessler was an All-American
basketball player at Purdue. He lived in Anderson, Indiana before moving
to Grand Blanc and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he was a vice
president at General Motors. In 1932, he was seriously injured in an automobile accident. He married Nondas Harmeson (1914-2002) on
August 21, 1936, and had three children, Robert (1941-2013), Barbara
(1940-1995) and Beverly. He moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina, in
2001, where he died in September of that year. He was named the NBL
Rookie of the Year for 1937-38.
