When the 6'5 Bornheimer entered Georgetown, he was, at the time, the tallest player the Hoyas ever had. He graduated early and because of his January 1943 graduation, he was ineligible to play his senior year. He went pro instead, playing for the Harrisburg Senators in the ABL as well as the Detroit Eagles and Akron Goodyear teams. At first, his height prevented him from military service, but eventually the restrictions were loosened and Bornheimer went to serve his country in World War 2. After the war, Bill returned to the basketball court, playing another three seasons in the American and New England leagues.

Bill is the older brother of NBA player Jake Bornheimer.

NATIONAL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME, 1969

One of biggest names in the history of the game of basketball, Red Auerbach was a very good player in high school and at George Washington University. He played one game professionally, playing a few minutes for the Harrisburg Senators in February of 1943 while also serving in the military. Due to World War 2, he did return to the pro game as a player. However, he would go on to become one of the greatest coaches in NBA history, helping to break the league's color barrier and winning nine titles with the Celtics over a ten-year span. He quit coaching after the 65-66 season, but moved into the Celtics' front office where he continued to help the Celtics to more glory. He remained on as general manager through 1984 when he became the team president and vice chairman. His health slowly declined in his 80's, and he died of a heart attack in 2006.

Raised in South Philly, Steve Juenger went to Temple where he played basketball for four years. After graduating, he worked at Bristol High School as a coach and teacher. After two years there, he moved over to Haverford, and after a year became the head basketball coach, a job he would hold for decades. During these early years, he would supplement his income playing basketball in the American and Eastern League, as well as the Tri-County League.

After his death in 2003, Haverford set up a memorial fund in his honor.

Kramer was one the best players in the game at his time. He was a star at LIU, and during his sophomore season, he played professionally in the Eastern League under an assumed name. LIU was one of the greatest college teams of the era, going 105-6 during Kramer's four years there. At one time, they had rattled off 43 consecutive wins.

Kramer played for ten seasons in the ABL and died in 1999.

Calihan served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2, and after the war returned to the NBL and played for Chicago. After his basketball career, he returned to his alma mater to coach for 20 years.In 1977, the University of Detroit named their basketball arena after Calihan.

He search for addresses and we find Eddie living in Clay Township, Michigan. He is the first living player I have found.

Article from the Saratogan on February 12, 1942, mentions the Detroit Eagles having a player named "Ed Perry" from Michigan State. Probably the same guy, but whether the Michigan State angle is accurate, I do not know.

Ed Parry died February 23, 2016.

Ed was a veteran of World War 2 and worked as a pressman for the Detroit News.
