Red played basketball at Bowling Green and played for the Hurricanes in a couple of games late in the 1949 season, appearing in the box scores at "Spiers." He was drafted by the Boston Celtics (48th overall) but did not make the team. He played for Bridgeport and then in the Eastern League before returning home to Akron. He worked for many years at Goodyear.

He and his wife, Marjorie, had one son and one daughter.
