1948-49 NYSL

Limping into its third season, the New York League was a seven-team league. The Troy Celtics had joined, but they would fold just four games in. To take their place, the Harlem Yankees were brought into the league in January and were given a 7-8 record to start with. The Utica Olympics, just two years prior the league champs, folded in February. The league struggled into the playoffs with declining attendance and waning interest. Cohoes defeated Glens Falls in the semi-finals, while Mohawk bested Schenectady after game two was ordered to be replayed after a time-keeping issue affected the outcome. In the finals, Cohoes and Mohawk split the opening two games, but then the series was terminated after neither team could keep an active roster. Four of Mohawk's players failed to show for a game, as did a few of Cohoes' players. The season ended without a champion, and the league disintegrated shortly thereafter.
