Born Albert Slominsky in Brookyn, Sloman was raised in Hudson, New York, and started playing pro basketball out of high school. After a few years in enrolled at Arnold College in Connecticut and played basketball for the school team. At that point in the 1920's, players could play college ball after being professional. This practice would end shortly thereafter. He played pro basketball through the mid 1930's, finishing in the 1934-35 season with stint on the New Britain team in the ABL and the Schenectady squad in the New York League. He died in 1996 two weeks short of his 90th birthday.

He was married to Pearl Ershler (1909-2001)

PBE has this player as John Zaleski dying in December of 1977. However, John Zaleski was 62 at the time of his sudden passing and that would have made him 14 at the time of his enrollment at Fordham. This lead me to search a little deeper. According to Jeff Marcus' book, coach and owner of the New Britain Team, Henry "Monjue" Zaleski, also played for the team sparingly. His obituary states he played as well as coached.

Zaleski played football, baseball and basketball at Fordham, and after graduated, he played and coached around his hometown, and was the owner of the Palace when they took Camden's place midway into the ABL season in 1933-34. The next year, the New Britain ABL club, now known as the Jackaways, was owner, coach and player when he disbanded the team in January of 1935. At this point, he moved to New York City to concentrate on his legal career/ He served in the Counter Intelligence Corps during World War 2, and after his return was the town attorney in Riverhead, NY. He would be eventually become a NY State Supreme Court Justice. He suffered a fatal heart attack at his home in 1966.

He was married to Lea and they had one son and two daughters.

After leading CCNY to a 41-6 record over his three seasons on the varsity squad, Spahn would go on to be one of the best players in the ABL. He lead the league in scoring in his rookie year, and was the runner up to the MVP award 1935-36 and 1936-37 before winning it outright in 1937-38. He was on five ABL championship teams, all while working as assistant coach at CCNY where he was earning his Master's Degree. He would eventually go on to NYU to earn his Ph.D.  His post-basketball life was dedicated to education. He was the headmaster at Franklin School in Manhattan for 25 years as well as a camp director at Camp Winaukee in New Hampshire and Tripp Lake Camp in Maine.

Moe died of heart failure in 1991. He and his wife and one son and one daughter.

Putzer played for Fordham in his sophomore year, and was set to play baseball in the spring when it was discovered that he had played basketball professionally under an assumed name. He was declared ineligible. He went on to play professionally while finishing his education at Fordham. Putzer would go one to work for many years as a Customs Officer for the Department of the Treasury, retiring in 1979.

NATIONAL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME, 1969

New York's Dutch Dehnert was an early star of the game. A long-time star with the legendary Original Celtics, Dehert played with many different teams in the late teens and early 1920's before finally latching on with the Celtics. The most popular barnstorming team, the stocky Dehnert made a name for himself as a player and a leader on the court. It was only natural that he would eventually become a player / coach, and then a head coach.

The Original Celtics joined a few leagues in the east as well as barnstorming, and when the Celtics took the place of the Brooklyn team early into the 1926-27 ABL season, Dehnert stayed with them through the 1927-28 season when he moved to the Cleveland Rosenblums. He would return to the Celtics when the ABL shutdown during the Great Depression. After playing through the 1930's, he quit playing and became a full-time head coach. He lead the Detroit Eagles of the NBL in 1940-41 season, and also the nexst year when the Eagles left the NBL to play independently. He headed back to New York in mid-season, finishing the Saratoga Indians season at the helm. He coached a couple seasons in the reborn ABL before returning to the NBL to lead the Sheboygan Redskins. This lead to him coaching the BAA's Cleveland team in that league's inaugural season in 1946-47, then the Chattamooga Majors in the PBLA in that ill-fated league. Once the PBLA disintegrated, he returned to Saratoga to coach two more seasons. Widely credited with developing the pivot play, Dehnert was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1969.

He was 81 when he died of a heart attack in 1979.


Dutch married Anna Geier (1899-1996) and they had two daughters and one son.
