Wineapple was a pitcher as well as a basketball player. After graduating from Salem HS in Massachusetts, where he once scored all 57 points in his school's 57-0 rout of a rival HS, he went to Syracuse where he would play basketball and baseball in his freshmen year. He transferred to Providence College, and was the only Jewish player on the team. His senior year, he became the first Jewish athlete to be named basketball All-American. He was signed by the Washington Senators after graduating from Providence and pitched in one game for them, throwing four innings against Detroit on September 15, 1929. He would bounce around the minor leagues through 1935, never again making it back to the majors. His professional basketball career was brief, with stops in Syracuse and Miami.

Ed and his wife Maxine had a son and a daughter.

From Marion, Indiana, "Stretch" was one of the game's first big men, at a time with most coaches stayed away from tall players due to their overall lack of athletic grace. the 6'7 Murphy changed that while at Purdue. He played with the Bruins of the ABL for one game, as well as other Midwestern teams over the early 1930's  He would go get his Master's Degree in Phys Ed at Columbia University. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1960.

He and his wife, Ruth, were married just short of 62 years.

NATIONAL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME, 1960


An outstanding player at Indiana, Branch was named the head coach of the basketball team at Ball State in 1930. He played some pro ball at this time, but it was on the sidelines where he would make his name. He eventually moved to the coaching job at Indiana, and lead the the Hoosiers to two NCAA titles. He stayed there through 1965 and left with 364 wins in 23 seasons. (His time there was interrupted with military service in the U.S. Navy during World War 2. He was elected to the Naismith Hall of Fame in 1960, based on his playing time at IU.

Swayne Mushroom Cannery in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, for 25 years before retiring to Arizona.

He was married to Lillian.

Born in Springport, New York, Harlan "Gotch" Carr grew up in Auburn, New York, and was a well-known football player who played and coached at Syracuse University. He played one year in the NFL, with Buffalo and Pottsville in 1925. He also played semi-pro baseball and played pro basketball with the All-Americans in 1929-30. After many years as an assistant football coach at SU, he moved to Miami, Florida, where he worked for the city as a recreation director. He retired in 1967 and returned to New York, where he died in 1970. He also owned a restaurant in Syracuse and also Carr-Ney Beverage. The restaurant was destroyed by fire in 1977.

Married Dorothy Kelley (1906-1982) in 1932 and they had one son and two daughters.

Bollerman was born in Brooklyn and lived in Queens before the family moved to Bogota, New Jersey, when Howard was around 10 years old. He worked for many years as a teacher, coach and athletic director while playing pro basketball on the side. He stopped coach and teaching when he became the principal at Hackensack HS. He held this post through August 1966 when he suffered a fatal heart attack leaving his house for work one morning. He was 59 years old.

He was married to Louise (1908-1984) and they had one son and one daughter.
