Henry Zaleski

PBE has this player as John Zaleski dying in December of 1977. However, John Zaleski was 62 at the time of his sudden passing and that would have made him 14 at the time of his enrollment at Fordham. This lead me to search a little deeper. According to Jeff Marcus' book, coach and owner of the New Britain Team, Henry "Monjue" Zaleski, also played for the team sparingly. His obituary states he played as well as coached.

Zaleski played football, baseball and basketball at Fordham, and after graduated, he played and coached around his hometown, and was the owner of the Palace when they took Camden's place midway into the ABL season in 1933-34. The next year, the New Britain ABL club, now known as the Jackaways, was owner, coach and player when he disbanded the team in January of 1935. At this point, he moved to New York City to concentrate on his legal career/ He served in the Counter Intelligence Corps during World War 2, and after his return was the town attorney in Riverhead, NY. He would be eventually become a NY State Supreme Court Justice. He suffered a fatal heart attack at his home in 1966.

He was married to Lea and they had one son and two daughters.

Putzer played for Fordham in his sophomore year, and was set to play baseball in the spring when it was discovered that he had played basketball professionally under an assumed name. He was declared ineligible. He went on to play professionally while finishing his education at Fordham. Putzer would go one to work for many years as a Customs Officer for the Department of the Treasury, retiring in 1979.

Bass was a talented guard who played through the 30's. While with Kingston in 1937-38, he was named coach when Pop Morganweck stepped down in January of 1938. Bass miss the 38-39 season due to a bad knee injury but returned to play for Troy in 1939.

The team began the season in Hoboken, but after losing their first two games, they team dropped and was replaced by the Camden Brewers on November 28, 1933. The Brewers also struggled, both on the floor and at the gate, and on January 9, 1934, they moved to New Britain, Connecticut. With a 2-10 record at the time of the move to New Britain, the new location and personnel changes improved the club's fortunes, and they even managed to finish in second place in the second half.
