The Harlem Yankees were a popular independent team that drew very well. They followed in the shoes of the Harlem Globetrotters and New York Rens, featuring predominately black players. They were persauded to take Troy's place in the New York State League in January of 1949, and were handed a 7-7 record to start with. The Yankees would drop their first four league contests before winning four straight. They failed to make the playoffs for their half season of work, and when the league dissolved in the summer of 1949, the club the American Basketball League for the 1949-50 season. They would spend four seasons in the ABL, located first in Harlem and then in Saratoga, Schenectady, Glens Falls and even Hazleton, Pennsylvania. After the American League folded in 1953, they joined the Eastern League for the 1955-56 season.
* Harlem was given a 7-7 record upon joining the league in January of 1949.
