Born to Solomon and Anna Rothman, Les was a fantastic athlete out of New York City. He played minor league baseball during his college years, which eventually caused him to declared ineligible for LIU's basketball team. It was not an uncommon practice, but most players would not use their real names when playing baseball, which was not the case with Rothman.

Following his professional athletic careers, Rothman was a principal in the NYV School System and Director of Camp Louemma and Camp Willoway.
