From the Bronx, the 6'1 basketball star at Niagara played a couple seasons with the Scranton Miners, first in the ABL and then in Eastern League a couple years later. He earned is Masters Degree in Guidance from St. John's in 1953 and was the principal at Rye Neck High School on New York. He was also a basketball referee in the Eastern Conference Athletic Association as well as in the NBA in the early 60's.
Birch died in 1987 following a lengthy illness.
