A Pawtucket-area athlete, coach and promoter, Duffy would be a prominent figure in local sports. He was the president of various semi-pro leagues, official and organizer. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War 2, being aboard the U.S.S. Menges when it was torpedoed by a German U-Boat. He would work in radio as the long-time voice of the Rhode Island Reds, an AHL hockey team.
George married Helen Richards in 1946 and they had four daughters and one son.
