Tommy Bell played basketball at La Salle, but entered the Coast Guard following his sophomore year. He played for the coast guard team while serving during World War 2, and after the war, Bell would play pro basketball in Pennsylvania for 3 season before becoming ill. He died of lymphoma in December of 1949 at the young age of 27, leaving behind his wife, Regina. The Eastern Basketball League named their MVP trophy in his honor.
