Craig starred on the court at Phillipsburg HS before enrolling at LIU. He left school to serve in the navy during World War 2. After the war, he played basketball in the ABL for the Barons before embarking a long career as a coach and scout.He was a well-known figure around the Eastern Basketball League for years before finally retiring in 1977. He was coaxed out of retirement in 1993 to coach his hometown Hazleton team in the fledgling Atlantic Basketball League.

He married Ethel Lampert on May 9, 1964.
