In Memoriam: Dick Bunt

Dick Bunt (1929-2021)

Armonk - Richard J. Bunt, 91, of Armonk, New York, and formerly of Greenlawn, New York, and Barefoot Bay, Florida, died on February 10, 2021, at Salem Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Purdys, New York. He was born on July 13, 1929, to Frederick and Mildred (née Jahoda) Bunt in Flushing, New York. Richard was an NYC physical education teacher and taught for many years at James Monroe High School in the Bronx, retiring in 1991. He was an avid golfer. He played basketball collegiately for New York University and was selected by the New York Knicks in the 1952 NBA draft, and went on to play for the Knicks and Baltimore Bullets in the National Basketball Association. He was married for 48 years to his wife, Joan C. Bunt (née Brengel), who predeceased him. He is survived by his two sons, Richard A. Bunt of Hacienda Heights, California, and David J. Bunt and his wife Yukiko Ishii Bunt of Brooklyn, New York; one daughter, Diane Bunt Power and her husband Mark Power of Armonk, New York; and one brother, Frederick Bunt of New Paltz, New York. He is also survived by his four grandchildren - Rachel, Ryan, and Lauryn Power and Brandon Bunt. The family is planning to hold a memorial service in the spring.

  1. Hi Mike, Dick's mom Mildred/Milada was Czech-American, her parents Jan and Milada Jahoda were from Bohemia.
