Born to Enos and Sarah Knapp, Knapp was a popular player around Buffalo. After playing for Al Heerdt for many years, he retired from the game after the 1923-24 season, but was coaxed back to the game when the Buffalo Bisons joined the ABL in 1925.
He and his wife, Florence, had one son.
