1938-39 DANBURY GUARDS
CONNECTICUT STATE BASKETBALL LEAGUE
1st Half: 6-2, .750, 2nd place
2nd Half: 8-0, 1.000, 1st place
Championship: Defeated West Haven, 3-1
The Danbury Guards, coached by local dentist Dr. Edward T. Fischer, were the cream of the crop. After dropping their opener to a strong West Haven team by two points, the Guards won six of the remaining 7 but still finished second behind the undefeated West Haven quintet. In the second half, Danbury was perfect, winning all 8 games. They would play first-half champion West Haven in the championship series. Danbury would win the best-of-five series three games to one, with all four games being close, hard-fought battles.
